The Ball State University men's golf team travels to Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio, today for the first day of competition at the Mid-American Conference Championships.
The Cardinals will send five golfers to the event, headlined by junior Eric Steger. He has been the most consistent golfer for Ball State this year, leading the team with a 72.64 average. He has also had four top-10 finishes.
Joining Steger in the tournament will be Tony Lazzara, Zac Henderson, TJ Carpenter and Anthony Novak.
Steger tied for 15th at the MAC Championships in Indianapolis last year, the Cardinals second-best finisher. Brian Mauer was the top Ball State golfer in that tournament, finishing 10th. Mauer was named First Team All-MAC in his senior season.
Novak is the only other Cardinal who competed in the MAC Championships last year, and he finished 37th. Ball State finished in sixth place as a team, and Kent State University took the championships.
The championships will be played over 72 holes, beginning at 8 a.m. today. The Cardinals will play 36 holes in the first day and 18 holes on Saturday and Sunday.
