The Ball State men's tennis team seems to be peaking at just the right time.
Nearly a month away from the start of Mid-American Conference play, the the Cardinals have won seven matches in a row.
Their latest win, a 7-0 Friday sweep over IPFW, was the last match before the team heads out west to take on tougher competition.
"This win was a big confidence booster for us," Cliff Morrison said. "We have worked the last couple of weeks and it has really paid off. We didn't want to lose and take a step back, so this was a good win."
Over Spring Break, the Cardinals will be taking on two teams in Las Vegas as part of their preparation for the MAC tournament.
"The Spring Break matches are very important so we can see where we stand and how much we need to improve," Morrison said. "With how we've been playing lately though, obviously we are doing something right."
For the first time this spring season, the team will be playing their matches on outdoor surfaces.
"This week will be a transition week to get back outdoors," coach Bill Richards said. "We got to hit outdoors today and we will get about an hour and a half tomorrow. It is a big bonus to get outdoor hitting in so we can get a base of play as we move into the conference season."
The Cardinals are hoping to make a statement to doubters that they are a contender in the MAC.
"The two teams we play in Vegas are better on paper than us so two wins would be big," Morrison said. "Wins against these teams would look really good for us as we move forward. People who don't believe in the team would start to believe in us."
