What started out as a promising season for the Ball State University women's tennis team has quickly taken a turn for the worst.
After starting the season with a 4-1 record, the team has now lost its last three matches and looks to make a turnaround and avoid going under .500 today against the University of Cincinnati.
Even Coach Amy Behrman has been worried about the team's direction lately.
"To be honest, at first, seeing the past few weeks of practice and everything that's happened in the matches has made me a little nervous," she said.
However, Behrman now says that she's starting to see a different attitude out of her team.
"They've really had some great practices this week," she said. "Coming into this match, I think they're more determined than ever to go out and prove themselves."
Lately, earning victories has been easier said than done for the Cardinals. Since a close loss to Morehead State University two weeks ago, Ball State hasn't managed to generate any momentum. The team was dealt another crushing loss last Friday against Chicago State University by a score of 4-3 before losing again on Saturday to Butler University.
Cincinnati (2-5) has also had its share of troubles this season. Similar to the Cardinals last weekend, the Bearcats' endurance should be heavily tested by competing in two matches on Friday prior to taking on the Cardinals today.
Since the match against Cincinnati will be the Cardinals' only one of the weekend, Behrman says it's the perfect time for the team to get back on track.
"Cincinnati has had its share of tough losses this season, but they did beat Morehead State, who we lost to," Behrman said. "But if we can come out fast and stick to the grind through the match, we can come out with a win."
