MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING: Ball State looks to come out on top against Miami on Senior Day

Coach wants season bests heading into MAC Championships in March

It happens to every college athlete. Four years of dedication, four years of blood and tears, and then it all comes to an end.

The proverbial end is near for seven seniors on the Ball State University men's swimming team as they have their last home meet today when Ball State hosts Miami University.

Ben Battjes, Adam Dale, Tyler Dixon, Ben Karwoski, Austin Laska, Jordan Rantz and Josh Young are the seniors leading the way this year for the Cardinals. Coach Bob Thomas said his seniors have certainly left their mark on the program.

"These seniors have been tremendous," Thomas said. "They've really been the backbone to our program and our success."

As for competing against Miami, Thomas said that the match is big in many ways.

"Miami is a big rival of ours," he said. "There is definitely a pride factor when we compete against them and, with this being our last home meet, there's a lot involved."

Although his team keeps improving its times, Thomas is not satisfied just yet.

"My expectations are very high," he said. "And we are still working towards meeting those expectations. The last few meets, we have had between 10 and 15 season-best times, and I think we can get 15 best times for the meet Saturday. It's something we can accomplish."

After today's meet, Ball State does not compete until the MAC Championships on March 4.
