DN Weekly Awards

Each week, The Ball State Daily News sports staff picks its PPQ — the player, play and quote of the week. And, with the help of our online readers, the weekly fan choice is also featured.

Here's this week's best:

Player: Lee Meyer, men's volleyball
The junior outside attacker thrived in last weekend's series at MIVA opponent Quincy with a combined 45 kills and 19 digs. His 27 kills in the first match — a Ball State 3-2 win — were a career-high.

Play: Audrey McDonald, women's basketball
Tired of dealing with her team's six-game losing streak, the senior guard and MAC all-time leader in 3-pointers did what she did best — converted from long distance — with 9:10 left in the Cardinals' win last Wednesday over Buffalo. The 3 pushed Ball State's lead to 24 points.

Quote: "Honestly, it makes my heart sink to have to lose a meet to somebody you're so close with. You want to come out on top. But it doesn't hurt any worse now because she's my friend than if it was a different team." — Gymnastics coach Nadalie Walsh after Sunday's loss to a Bowling Green squad coached by Walsh's former mentor Kerrie Beach.

Fan Choice: Randy Davis, men's basketball
Davis wins for the second consecutive week, this time with a convincing 32 votes and 59 percent of the total vote. The sophomore point guard had a team-best 20 points and seven rebounds and rallied Ball State in its 71-66 win at Northern Illinois on Saturday.
