Ball State defeated Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 64-40 behind the 20 points of junior forward Emily Maggert. Junior guard Shannon Keli added nine points to help the Cardinals pick up the non-conference victory.
Maggert scored 12 first half points in just nine minutes, shooting 5-for-5 from the field. She finished the game 8-for-9 on the floor; the lone miss a 3-pointer that clanged off the iron. Maggert also pulled down four boards.
The Cardinals improved to 8-8 overall on the season, while the Cougars fall to 3-16. Ball State (2-1 Mid-American Conference) continues MAC play with a 3 p.m. tipoff Sunday against the University of Toledo at Worthen Arena.
