It will be a cold Thanksgiving for Ball State University next year.
The Great Alaska Shootout announced the participants for next year's tournament this week and Ball State will make its first appearance in the Thanksgiving weekend tournament.
The eight-team field also includes host University of Alaska Anchorage, Drake University, St. John's University, Arizona State University, Houston Baptist, Southeast Louisiana University and Southern Utah University.
The 2010 Shootout will be the 33rd installment of the annual tournament. It has been one of the more prestigious events in college basketball, but in recent years interest has dropped as more tournaments compete for top schools. This year, only six teams will compete and the tournament had been reported to be in economic struggles.
The Cardinals have not participated in a Thanksgiving week tournament since 2006, when they went 1-3 in the Las Vegas Holiday Invitational.
Ball State will be the fourth Mid-American Conference team to participate in the tournament, joining Eastern Michigan University, Northern Illinois University and Ohio University. In-state rival Butler University won the Shootout in 2007, its only appearance.
The Shootout is scheduled from Nov. 24-27, 2010 in Anchorage, Alaska.
