After the road victory Sunday, the Ball State University soccer team is hoping the confidence will carry over to this weekend, starting Friday afternoon. "We played extremely well in the second half of the match Sunday," coach Michael Lovett said. "We want that confidence we played with and how well we played to carry over Friday."
Ball State hosts its first Mid-American Conference home match Friday afternoon against Bowling Green State University, who is still looking for their first conference win.
Lovett said that Homecoming weekend will not lead to a distraction, instead he believes it is an advantage for the team.
"We know there are going to be a lot of fans and alumni on campus this weekend and at the game," Lovett said. "We want to give a good performance for them. We want to show them that Ball State soccer is getting better."
The Cardinals are expected to come out this weekend with intensity and heart for their fans this weekend, Lovett said. He also wants the team to perform well for the recruits that will be attending the games as well.
Along with Homecoming, this is the "Think Pink" weekend for the soccer team. Before the game Sunday afternoon against the University of Toledo, the team will wear pink warm-up shirts and Lovett will wear a pink polo shirt for the occasion.
"Showing awareness for breast cancer like we do I think is great," Lovett said. "Today nearly everyone somehow is affected by it and it's good to know that we are playing for someone else."
Lovett said two wins are possible.
"Getting two wins this weekend would help us tremendously. It would boost our confidence for the rest of the season," Lovett said. "Beating our two top rivals this weekend will help us reach a MAC title."
