Each week, The Daily News' sports crew picks its PPQ - the play, player and quote of the week.
But it doesn't stop there. With the help of our online voters, the weekly fan choice is also featured.
This week's best:
Player of the Week
Devanny Kuhn, field hockey — the sophomore midfielder scored a hat trick — and then one — in Ball State's 4-2 win over host Missouri State on Saturday. Kuhn's career-high four-goal effort came at the 9:39 mark in the first half and continued with three goals in the second half to earn her the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week title. Her five goals this season also ties her with Brooke MacGillivary and Hannah Jones for the team lead.
Play of the Week
Robert Eddins, football — With 5:33 left in the third quarter at Eastern Michigan University, Eddins broke through the line and blocked a punt. The ball went out the back of the end zone for a safety. The play brought the Cardinals within five points of the Eagles and shifted the momentum. Ball State won their first game of the season, 29-27.
Quote of the Week
"I tell younger kids that I know exactly what they are going through. I have shared their pain. I tell them if you love soccer that much, you will always want to play. I also help them by just saying they will get through their injury, because I went through it three times. That's when they look at me and wonder how I did it three times." — Sophomore defender Tina Vannatta, who has overcome three ACL tears to play soccer for Ball State.
Fan Choice
MiQuale Lewis, football — with 80 votes and 65 percent of the poll, Lewis won the seventh fan choice vote of the year. The senior ran for 301 yards, setting the school's single-game rushing record. Lewis was also named MAC West Offensive Player of the Week.
