Parking restrictions on Ball State University's campus are being lifted two hours earlier than usual today.
The proposal was made to Parking Services by members of Student Government Association.
The two groups met Thursday and negotiated a deal for Homecoming weekend and Family Weekend.
SGA vice president Mandy Mills said this was a platform point for Cardinal Impact during its campaign. She said SGA chose to target Homecoming and Family weekends because of the large number of visitors who come to campus from out of town and hopes this will make their trip easier.
"It's hard for people to plan to come on campus when there's not parking," she said.
Mills said SGA originally asked for parking restrictions to be lifted at noon, but compromised after talking with representatives from Parking Services.
"Parking Services was extremely willing to do this for us," she added.
Director of Public Safety Gene Burton said he doesn't think the change will cause many problems for university faculty and staff.
Many of the lots have already begun to clear out by 3 p.m. anyway, he said.
If this new deal is successful, it could become an annual tradition for the two weekends, Burton said.
"We'll see how much trouble we've caused, or haven't, after Family Weekend," he said.
