Many students on the Ball State University campus take the opportunity to be a part of study abroad programs each year. Missionary trips are another way to study abroad.
For those interested in missionary trips, the Christian Campus House, a non-denominational church will hold a missionary conference on Saturday. Breakfast will be served at 9 a.m. with speakers following at 10 a.m.
Director of Christian Campus House Ministry Mark Pike said the conference will introduce students to mission trips.
"The focus of the conference is to connect students with missionary agencies, providing information about mission opportunities and encourage them to get involved in what God is doing worldwide," he said.
The first speaker at the conference will be Dave Empson, the acting director of the National Missionary Convention, a gathering of missionaries and agencies which support, recruit and train missionaries, Pike said.
"The NMC is particularly focused on recruiting a new generation of missionaries to serve throughout the world," Pike said.
Empson will discuss awareness for both long- and short-term service around the world that could possibly lead to careers for young college students. He will also be trying to attract more missionary students because more are needed, Pike said.
Willard Walls, a member care director assistant at the Christian Missionary Fellowship, will also speak about what to do before leaving for a mission trip such as preparation, difficulties missionaries will encounter and encouragement along the way, Pike said. Walls' approach will be from experience in the field.
Each speech will be approximately half an hour long followed by a question and answer session. Lunch will be provided around noon followed by talk of a possible overseas trip for 2010.
