SOCCER: Ball State shutout in conference opener vs. Kent State

The Ball State University soccer team opened play in the Mid-American Conference at Kent State University with a 4-0 loss on Friday. The Golden Flashes' first goal came with some help from the Cardinals, who had a miscue with an own goal in the 21st minute. In the 39th minute, Kent State also scored to take a 2-0 lead heading into the half.

In the second half, freshman Paige Stronski and junior Jacki Eft each had shots on goal that were saved by the Kent State goalkeeper.

Kent State scored again in the 65th minute off of a cross into the penalty box, and its final goal came four minutes later off a headed corner kick.

The loss marks only the second time the Cardinals have dropped their MAC opener in the last nine years. The loss is also the first time in six matches Ball State has lost to Kent State.

Ball State continues its conference opening weekend on the road against the University at Buffalo at noon Sunday.
