The Student United Way has planned another poverty simulation as a way for students to learn about and get involved in the community. The group collaborates with Teamwork for Quality Living in Indiana to raise awareness about poverty in Muncie, said Austin Gerber, president of the Student United Way.The last simulation took place during the Spring Semester. Gerber said 70 to 80 people showed up the last time and he is hoping to have the same number if not more. Gerber said there's not enough of a connection between Ball State and the Muncie community."It's a great way for students to learn about the community," he said. "Especially those that aren't from Muncie."Students participating in the poverty simulation will receive a card with information gathered by Teamwork for Quality Living in Indiana about homeless people around the community. The student becomes the person on the card and lives their life. Gerber said he expects the activity to last about two hours, with every 15 minutes representing a week. After each "week" students stop and discuss their "lives."The poverty simulation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church, 1400 W. Riverside Ave.
