The Helen B. and Martin D. Schwartz Special Collections and Digital Complex had its grand opening at 10 a.m. Thursday in Bracken Library.
The complex is bringing new technology to Ball State University's campus by allowing students and faculty to access media resources and special collections from University Libraries on a global level.
Users can access international news digitally with podcasts, broadcasts and multimedia. It also allows students to work on multiple projects at once.
The complex features a communal space centered around three flat-screen TVs that will play international news broadcasts.
It also features two separate lecture rooms, called "the pod," and viewing rooms. These rooms are available by reservation only, which can be done from the Bracken Library home page.
Another asset to the complex is Microsoft Surface, a flat touch-screen monitor that displays a variety of Ball State information and programs such as the Las Americas Virtual Design Studio.
"We are very grateful to Mr. Schwartz for donating the money and making all of this possible," John Straw, assistant dean for Digital Initiatives and Special Collection, said.
Senior Jonathan Raichel said he is looking forward to using the new area.
"It looks like a very tranquil place and a great environment to study in," he said.
The Schwartz Digital Complex is located on the left side of the south entrance of Bracken Library and is open to the public.
