Theta Chi fraternity and Sigma Kappa sorority will co-sponsor their fall fundraising event tomorrow, encouraging participants to splish, splash and get soaked all for a good cause.
Kendall Ray, Water Daze committee chairman from Theta Chi, said this event is a big fundraiser for Riley Children's Hospital. "We've been hosting Water Daze since 1990," Ray said. "It's always been our philanthropic event for Riley's."
Last year, 20 teams participated in Water Daze. Ray said teams participate in four water games, and they compete in brackets.
"Just for fun, there are inflatables, water slides and a dunk tank set up while they wait," Ray said.
Sigma Kappa has co-sponsored Water Daze for the last two years. Ray said last year $2,500 was raised after expenses. Despite economic hardships, this year's amount could exceed last year's because the contribution from Sigma Kappa alone will almost match last year's amount.
Sigma Kappa president Maureen Leyden said the girls have raised $2,000 for Water Daze.
However, Ray said Theta Chi is having a harder time getting sponsors.
"This year it's been harder to raise money," Ray said. "I hate to blame the economy, but businesses don't have as much money to give."
Ray said the event usually attracts participants from fraternities and sororities, but any organization is welcome to participate. Multiple teams have signed up from Alpha Ki, Alpha Omicron Pi and Alpha Gamma Delta sororities, he said.
The first two teams from each organization must pay $50 to participate and any subsequent teams must pay $30 each.
Water Daze will take place Saturday on LaFollette Field. Registration starts at 10:30 a.m. and events will begin at 11 a.m.
Leyden said there will be door prizes and a raffle at the end.
"It should be a good time," Leyden said. "Water slides and inflatables have always been a popular part of Water Daze."
