Coach Stan Parrish said captain Madaris Grant suffered what likely will be a career-ending injury in Thursday's 20-10 loss to the University of North Texas.
Parrish said his senior tight end suffered a knee injury that appears to be an ACL tear. Recovery from such an injury usually takes a year.
"We suffered a tremendous loss in the first quarter with Madaris going down," Parrish said. "That's the one guy we didn't want to lose."
Parrish said Grant was unsure exactly when he was injured and may have played another series after the injury. Parrish said Grant was unable to put any pressure on it.
Grant will have an MRI which will determine the exact injury.
"Maybe he'll be alright," Parrish said. "But it doesn't look that way."
