Unable to get any more traction on offense, Ball State University fell 14 points behind the University of New Hampshire 23-9.
The Wildcats took an advantage of a MiQuale Lewis fumble with four minutes left in the quarter, taking over with the ball on the Cardinals eight-yard line. Running back Sean Jellison scored his second touchdown of the game on the next play, taking an option pitch from quarterback R.J. Toman.
Ball State took advantage of good field position of their own at the start of the quarter. Freshman Eric Williams took the kickoff back to the visitor's 42-yard line. Ian McGarvey kicked his third field goal of the game, a 37-yarder.
The Cardinals escaped a first-and-goal situation at the end of the third quarter. Three penalties and a sack forced New Hampshire back to the 50 yard line at one point, before they were forced to punt from Ball State's 44.
