FIELD HOCKEY: Defense, offense struggle in 7-1 MAC-opening loss at Miami

The Ball State University field hockey team opened Mid-American Conference play Wednesday night with a 7-1 lopsided loss to host Miami University.

The loss is the Cardinals' (2-4, 0-1 MAC) fourth straight after opening the season with two wins.

The RedHawks (2-4, 2-0 MAC) benefitted from a hat trick from Kate Snyder. Katie Brightwell had four assists on the day.

For Ball State, sophomore midfielder Devanny Kuhn scored her first goal of the season off a penalty corner. Senior goalkeeper Tiffany Shifflett had a season-high-tying nine saves in the loss.

The Cardinals return to action on Sunday as they travel to Indiana University for a 1 p.m. match.
