After beginning the season with seven road matches, the Ball State University field hockey team is ready for their home opener against Ohio State University today at 3 p.m. This marks the third Big Ten opponent in ten days for the Cardinals.
Despite a five game losing streak, Cardinals' coach Annette Payne said she knows her team remains in high spirits.
"These girls are awesome," Payne said. "They're hungry and they want a W; they are working hard... these girls are a great group."
The most important thing for Payne is that her team keeps moving forward with each game and improving themselves as a whole."We need to keep building and maintain and adjust and get ready," Payne said. "You always want to take a step forward. We played well against Miami, we played a solid 70 minutes; if we continue to do what we did on Saturday, we will be fine."
Last season, the Cardinals were overwhelmed with the Buckeye's scoring attack as they lost 5-0.
They look to bounce back and end the Buckeye's winning streak at four games with a full team effort on the field.
"We need to take care of Ball State hockey, and we need to continue to play with our heart and emotions on the field," Payne said. "That is the most important part."
The Buckeyes bring to Muncie an overall record of 6-3 as the Cardinals hold a 2-5 overall record.
