Even after losing its Mid-American Conference opener, the Ball State University field hockey team went back to practice focused on getting better and getting things back on track for this weekend.
The 7-1 lose to Miami University hurt, but the team took the two days of practice coming into the road game against Indiana University at 1 p.m. Saturday as a time to regroup.
"We have to re-center and get back on track after the match against Miami," coach Annette Payne said.
The matchup is the 18th meeting between Indiana and Ball State with the Hoosiers beating the Cardinals last year 2-0.
"We understand and respect IU," Payne said. "We know what they have."
Payne said Ball State has to play respectable against Indiana.
When playing team teams from different conferences such as the Big Ten or Southeast Conference Payne said she notices different styles of play each team possesses.
"There are definitely characteristics in each conference," Payne said. "The Big Ten is respectable, and you have to go in there and play well."
This matchup is Ball State's second Big Ten opponent in the past 10 days.
In addition, Ball State has its home opener against against Big Ten team Ohio State University on Tuesday.
