DN Weekly Awards

Each week, The Daily News' sports crew picks its PPQ - the play, player and quote of the week.

But it doesn't stop there. With the help of our online voters, the weekly fan choice is also featured.

This week's best:

Play of the weekSenior midfielder Megan Ridley (soccer) - In the 66th minute of Ball State University's home opening 3-2 win against Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, Ridley scored what would be the game-winner for the Cards. Ridley's third goal of the season came from junior forward Jacki Eft, who found Ridley for a bender into the opposite top corner of the net.

Player of the weekAlisha Green (women's volleyball) - the senior outside hitter capped off a team title in last weekend's Best Western Indiana State University Classic by being named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, joining teammates Charde' Phillips and Kaylee Schembra on the all-tournament team. Green accumlated 25 kills and six solo blocks in the Cardinals' sweeps over Chicago State University, Eastern Illinois University, and Indiana State.

Quote of the week"You don't practice for that. You don't game plan to lose." - Ball State senior defensive end Brandon Crawford following the Cardinals' 23-16 loss to the University of New Hampshire.

Fan's choiceIan McGarvey (football) - With 12 votes and 34 percent of the poll, the junior kicker won this year's third fan choice poll. McGarvey connected on three field goals - 48, 47 and 37-yarders - in the Cardinals' 23-16 loss to New Hampshire. McGarvey topped Green of the women's volleyball team, who had eight votes.
