Burris receives $2,000 grant to help battle childhood obesity

Burris Laboratory School was one of 50 schools selected Tuesday to receive a grant to help prevent childhood obesity.

Burris will receive a $2,000 grant from ING, a financial services company, to help fund its Run For Something Better program.

Run For Something Better is an eight-week program that attempts to introduce elementary and middle school students to the advantages of running through school-based programs. The workout program also ends with a running event to showcase the students' achievements.

More than 300 schools applied for this grant. The applications were reviewed by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education review board, which consists of 100 teachers and school administers.
