I'd never eaten there when it was called 909 Grille, so there was no built-up expectation for the food and service at Amazing Joe's.
Atmosphere
Amazing Joe's is a great place to take the family to dinner, but I would suggest going earlier. I noticed that by 6 p.m., most of the patrons were in their very late-20s to mid-50s. The restaurant attracts larger groups, which when combined with poor acoustics, created a very loud dining experience. It was hard to carry a conversation due to the noise. Our table in the middle of the small bar area was constantly bumped by every person that walked by. I can't imagine sitting there much later than we had. As the crowd outside waiting to get a table grew, the small space in the bar became tighter. The décor is pretty bleak. There aren't pictures and the walls aren't decorated with the fanfare of many restaurants.
Food Instead of the typical dinner roll, Amazing Joe's served up a small loaf of fresh baked garlic bread. It was hard not to eat the whole loaf before the meal arrived. The waitress took our order and our food arrived hot and in just the right amount of time. The menu was a little different and left me having to choose between American and Italian meals. I chose American by ordering the filet, broccoli and loaded french fries. My filet was served just right and melted like butter in my mouth. It was perfectly seasoned, and the addition of A1 sauce was not needed. The fries were all I would expect from loaded fries, but the broccoli was a little less than amazing. Perhaps the bland flavor was from the lack of butter or seasoning. My boyfriend went Italian and ordered the lasagna and a salad. His salad tasted pretty good, as I took a bite to avoid eating more bread. The lasagna was two huge pieces and had a little kick to the sauce. It was more like two meals in one and well worth the $12.99 price tag.
Price
The filet and two sides was $15.99. I'd say the price was fair compared to the same meal served elsewhere. The menu pricing was comparable to that of Applebee's and many other family chain restaurants. Amazing Joe's does have a $7.99 meal special that runs from 4 to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Overall, I found Amazing Joe's no more than average.
