WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State wins first set, but close out match vs. Coastal Carolina

In its final match of the Mortar Board Premier Tournament, the Ball State University women's volleyball team lost to Coastal Carolina University 20-25, 27-25, 25-21, 25-20 on Saturday in West Lafayette.

Against Coastal Carolina, one of the radical changes seen starting in the first set was the reassignment of sophomore setter Brittany McGinnis.

McGinnis was moved to left outside attackers because of injuries to libero Alyssa Rio and outside attacker Hannah Sullivan. In the new position, McGinnis recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 16 digs.

"I was a little nervous at first, but then I focused on what I needed to do," McGinnis said. "I had played the position before and everyone helped me transition back into it. It was fun."

In addition to McGinnis, senior outside attacker Julie Breivogel tallied a career-high 22 kills and crossed the 1,000 kill mark for her career at Ball State.

With this loss, Ball State opens its season 0-3, including three-game losses to No. 19 Purdue University on Friday and the University of Dayton on Saturday afternoon.
