MEN'S GOLF: Golfer moves up to 9th after second round in National tournament

Junior Eric Steger, a member of the Ball State men's golf team, is currently tied for ninth place out of 312 golfers in the U.S. Amateur Championships at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.

Steger is participating in the event because he won the sectional qualifier at Coldstream Country Club in Cincinnati.

Steger carded a 71 Tuesday on the 7,093-yard par 70 course in Stroke Play Round 2. The 72 he posted during Stroke Play Round #1 gives him a total of 143 3-over-par on the leader board. That puts him only three strokes behind current leader Tim Jackson. Today, players will compete in Match Play Round 1. The top 64 players will compete in 32 matches, with the top 32 golfers advancing to play in the Match Play Round 2 on Thursday.
