MEN'S GOLF: Cardinal makes top 25 after first round of National tournament

Junior Eric Steger, a member of the Ball State University men's golf team, is in the top 25 after the first round of a national tournament.

Steger carded a 2-over-par 72 Monday and is tied for 25th place at the U.S. Amateur Championships at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.

Steger is one of 312 golfers participating in the event because the junior advanced to the championships after winning the sectional qualifier at Coldstream Country Club in Cincinnati.

Today players will complete stroke play round two. On Wednesday, match play round one will begin, with the top-64 golfers competing.With Ball State last season, Steger averaged a 74.45 strokes per round.
