Greek's Pizzeria has been open for 30 years.
Owner Andy Goth is looking to expand his business methods used at the pizzeria to his new tanning salon, Sunsations Tanning.
Goth has owned Greek's Pizzeria for six years. During that time, multiple businesses in the Village have opened and closed for many reasons, both legal and financial.
Goth said Greek's has lasted this long due in part to its product, but also said a main factor for the establishment's success are positive relations with customers.
"There's no doubt about it that. I'm going to use some of the same things that kept Greek's successful over the years [for the tanning salon]," Goth said. "It boils down to customer service and product. Price is always important, but if you got a good product, people are going to go out of their way to make it into your place."
Weather plays a major role at tanning salons. People tan more in the winter as they do the summer, Goth said.
As always, the incoming students for the academic year at Ball State University will help with business.
"I think with having close to 20,000 students coming back, all at once, it'll help quite a bit," Goth said. "That's what happens to Greek's Pizzeria every year so we're expecting a good turnout for the salon. [Business has] been really good."
New dorms and the remodeling of old buildings on Ball State's campus will have a positive effect on the rest of campus, Goth said.
"[The Village has been] kind of been drug down the last three years, but it should bounce back," Goth said. "If you dump enough money somewhere, eventually it bounces back."
Goth worked at Greek's for six years before becoming owner of the restaurant. He said the Village used to be full of businesses and customers all the time. If someone could establish a new place there, they "were guaranteed success," but now, that's not the case, he said.
"Taxes are supposed to level off this year," Goth said. "[The taxes] are supposed to cap off at 3 percent for commercial properties of assessed market value. Hopefully the landlords will start leveling off on rent too. That would help. If they don't, then it [the state of The Village] will go on longer."
