Muncie and surrounding cities host special events, activities for holiday weekend

Fireworks are a traditional part of Fourth of July celebrations and this year is no different. In honor of the holiday, Muncie and other local cities host several fireworks displays and festivities for the community's 'oohing' and 'ahhing' pleasure.

Summer Stage Fest at MinnetristaThe Minnetrista Cultural Center is hosting a free event at the Delaware County Fairgrounds. The Summer Stage Fest features America's Hometown Band beginning at 8:30 p.m., followed by a fireworks display.

Set The Night to MusicAlong with local radio station 104.1 WLBC-FM, the city of Muncie is hosting "Set The Night to Music," a fireworks display synchronized with music. The show is free to the public and will take place at Muncie Central High School at 10 p.m. MITS will be providing a free shuttle service for the event. People can park, free of charge, at both the Northside Middle School and Southside High School parking lots and ride the bus to the fireworks. Buses will run every 15 minutes between 8 and 10 p.m. After the show ends, buses will resume to return people to their cars.

2009 Annual Fireworks FestivalWhere: Morrows Meadow Park, YorktownWhen: 5 p.m.Festivities: concert featuring Country Krossroads and Knot-a-Kloo, kiddie rides, rock climbing wall, games, cornhole tournament, arts and crafts booths, food and beverage vendors, beer tent, Chamber Duck Race and fireworks display at 10 p.m.

Independence Day CelebrationWhere: Albany Park, AlbanyWhen: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.Festivities: car show, hog roast, rummage sales, boat races, vendors and a fireworks display at dusk.
