For the first time in NCAA men's volleyball history, two programs with more than 1,000 wins will play each other.
UCLA released its 2010 schedule Monday and will play Ball State University on March 10 in Los Angeles.
The Cardinals and the Bruins are the only two NCAA men's volleyball teams to have reached the 1,000 win milestone.
UCLA leads the nation with 1,185 all-time wins, and Ball State has 1,015 program wins - including getting its 1,000th win in February.
Ball State coach Joel Walton said the historical significance gives this match an interesting angle for him to look for the upcoming season.
"It's just a great honor to be a part of a program that has reached the 1,000th win milestone, and for us UCLA Bruins to play this year," he said.
UCLA coach Al Scates was unavailable for comment about this match against Ball State.
This will also be the first time the two teams will play since Ball State defeated UCLA twice at Worthen Arena in 2008. Prior to that match, the Cardinals were 1-21 all-time against the Bruins.
UCLA (14-16, 10-12 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) ended last season No. 9 in the coaches poll and was eliminated in its MPSF tournament quarterfinals.
Ball State (18-10, 6-4 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) finished the 2009 season No. 13 in the coaches poll and lost to Ohio State University in the conference tournament championship match in May.
After not playing any road matches last season against the MPSF - which had 10 of its 12 teams ranked in the final 2009 top 15 coaches poll - Walton said this upcoming season's tougher non-conference schedule will benefit his players.
"I feel good about the schedule and we will be truly tested this year," he said.
