A former member of the Ball State University golf team is in the top 15 after the second round of play at the Indiana Open Championship at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course in Speedway.
Jamie Broce finished the first two days of the competition at two under par, which was good enough for 15th place. Broce, who competed for Ball State from 1995-1999, holds Ball State records for the lowest average for one, two and three years and for the lowest career average. Broce also won the Mid-American Conference Championship in 1997 and was named the MAC golfer of the year in 1999.
Ball State alumnus Brian Sears finished one under to also finish above the cut.
Current Ball State golfer Eric Steger and alumni Andrew Rhodes and David Carich all finished two over par, which was also above the cut.
Alumnus Brian Mauer and current golfer Ross Cosat also finished above the cut. Current golfers Brodie Williams and TJ Carpenter did not make the cut of four over par.
Andy Winings of Brownsburg and Chris Baker from Brownstown are tied for the lead at nine under par.
The tournament will continue at 8:00 a.m. today for round three and will conclude Friday with the fourth round of competition. Broce is scheduled to tee off at 10:15 a.m.
