Ball State University junior third baseman Kolbrin Vitek recently won MVP in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League All-Star game in Cincinnati. Vitek, a member of the Lake Erie Monarchs, hit a solo home run in the second inning, earning him the top spot.
A First Team All-Mid-American Conference selection as a sophomore, Vitek batted .381 while driving in seven runs en route to earning GLSCL Player of the Week honors prior to the All-Star break.
Vitek finished his sophomore campaign at Ball State with a .389 batting average - sixth-best in the MAC, along with finishing top three in four other categories including RBI, slugging percentage, total bases, and doubles. His presence on the mound was also menacing as he posted a .268 opponent batting average for the year.
During the summer Vitek is batting .373 in 26 games for the Monarchs. His 12 doubles leads the GLSCL and he is second in the league with a .647 slugging percentage. Vitek has also hit five triples, two homeruns, eight stolen bases and has scored 26 runs during the season.
