Ball State University's Board of Trustees has approved the construction of a $2 million art glass studio that will be built on an athletic field between Ball Memorial Hospital and Christy Woods.
Construction of The Marilyn K. Glick Center for Glass will begin in September and is scheduled to open in the fall of 2010, according to a press release.
The building will include a hot shop with three glass furnaces, glass blowing work space and a computer design lab. It will also have an observation area for spectators to watch the glass-making process.
Once it's completed, Ball State will offer a bachelor of fine arts and a masters of fine arts degree in glass art. Ball State will be the only school in the state offering the masters of fine arts degree in glass art.
The center has been named after Marilyn Glick, who has collected glass for 30 years. Her daughter, Marianne Glick, is a member of the Board of Trustees.
"I think it's going to be a very exciting," Marianne Glick said. "There will be bleachers where [individuals] can see the students and teachers blow glass."
