WOMEN'S GOLF: Golfer disqualified from national tournament because of traffic jam

After finishing the first round of the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship with an 83, for 11 over par, Ball State University golfer Kristtini Cain was disqualified for missing her second round tee time.

Ball State women's golf coach Katherine Mowat said Cain missed her tee time because of traffic.

"It's one of those nightmares we've all had, where you sleep through a final exam or something," Mowat said. "It was really unfortunate. I talked to her about 30 minutes before her tee time, but she was more than 30 minutes away. She and her dad were really upset about it."

In order for Cain to make the cut after the second round, she would have had to shoot a 71, one under par. Mowat said Cain could have done it, but it would have been a challenge.

The U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship will continue through Saturday at the Red Tail Golf Club in Devens, Mass.
