TRACK AND FIELD: Williams, Johnson end career, season at NCAA Regionals

For the first time since 2001 and the second time since 1996, the Ball State University track and field team failed to have an athlete qualify for the NCAA Championships.

Senior Amber Williams and junior Katie Johnson did not qualify beyond their first heat at the NCAA Mideast Regional meet. Williams finished the 100-meter dash eighth in her heat with the top four advancing. She had the 19th fastest time. She failed to finish her heat in the 100-meter hurdles for undisclosed reasons. Johnson finished sixth in her heat.

This is the first time in eight years that Ball State has not had an athlete qualify for the NCAA Championships.

Last year, Amanda Barnhart qualified for the Championships in the long jump, where she went on to finish 26th.

In 2007, Williams qualified for the meet in the 100-meter hurdles where she finished 18th. She redshirted the 2008 season to train for the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Williams was the Mid-American Conference champion in both the 100-meter dash and the 100-meter hurdles. Johnson was second to Williams in the 100-meter hurdles.
