Doc's on Dill played its last song Saturday after less than one year in business.
The local music venue opened in the Village in October 2008 as an extension of Doc's Music Hall, located in downtown Muncie.
Owner Mike Martin said the goal of Doc's Music Hall, which has been open since May 2006, is to make and share music with the Muncie community.
He said that the addition of Doc's on Dill spread their resources and talents thin and that he is looking forward to consolidating.
"We just wanna do one venue really well," he said. "One is enough for a town this size."
When it came time to choose between the two, Martin decided to focus his attention on the downtown venue, which he already owns.
The bar in the Village was being rented from building owner Myles Ogea, who didn't return a phone call to comment on the closing.
Both bars hosted live music acts six times a week, which is a tradition that will continue at the downtown venue, Martin said.
Senior AJ Wilson, who is a member of local band Eight Stories High, was at Doc's on Dill Sunday to help move equipment out of the building.
"It was starting to bring a new crowd to the Muncie bar scene," he said. "It was giving people something else to do other than just dance."
Wilson said his band played at Doc's on Dill regularly and had four shows planned there later this summer. Wilson said Eight Stories High still plans to play at Doc's Music Hall.
Martin emphasized that although students will have to travel a bit farther, the downtown location will still provide the same kind of entertainment.
Martin said Doc's Music Hall plans to stay involved in the Muncie MusicFest and Ball State University's Homecoming events.
