BASEBALL: Hazelbaker still waiting to be drafted after Day 1

The first day of the MLB First-Year Player Draft passed Tuesday with Ball State University center fielder Jeremy Hazelbaker not among the 111 players selected.

Twenty-four outfielders were selected by MLB teams, beginning with the second overall pick. The Seattle Mariners took University of North Carolina junior Dustin Ackley, behind San Diego State University pitcher Stephen Strasburg, who went first overall to the Washington Nationals.

Mid-American Conference Player of the Year Marc Krauss was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the 64th overall pick. Krauss played left field for Ohio University and was the only MAC player taken.

Four players were selected from the state of Indiana, three from Indiana University and one from the University of Notre Dame.

Hazelbaker was projected to be chosen in rounds two-four before the draft. The draft continues at noon Wednesday. Continue to check bsudailynews.com for draft updates until the draft's conclusion Thursday.
