For the second time in a week, Ball State University first baseman Ian Nielsen was named to a freshman All-American team.
Nielsen was honored by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association as a Second Team Freshman All-American on Monday. Last Wednesday he was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team.
"I'm very happy for Ian," coach Greg Beals said. "Receiving post-season honors is good because they have to do with the actual season you put forth. It's an indication of the hard work Ian put in."
Nielsen is the first Cardinal to be make the NCBWA's Freshman All-American team. He was the only player from the Mid-American Conference named to the either team.
Nielsen finished the season with a .352 batting average and 53 RBI. Preston Tucker, from the University of Florida, was named first baseman of the first team. Tucker hit .364 with 85 RBI and 15 home runs.
