This weekend, a pair of hurdlers from the Ball State University track and field team will compete in the NCAA Mideast Regional at the University of Louisville.
Amber Williams and Katie Johnson both qualified for the regionals in the 100-meter hurdles and Williams also qualified for the 100-meter dash.
Williams won the MAC in both events and is seeded 14th in the 100-meter hurdles and 15th in the 100-meter dash. Johnson, who finished second to Williams in the 100-meter hurdles, is seeded 17th.
Johnson qualified for the regional meet last year in the same event where she finished in 21st place.
Williams last qualified for the regional meet in 2007 where she finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles. She redshirted last season to train for the 2008 Summer Olympics.
This year, senior Tifany Ofili from the University of Michigan leads the region in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 12.82, more than eight tenths of a second ahead of Williams. In the 100-meter dash, Samantha Henry from Louisiana State University is seeded first in the region, nearly one half of a second ahead of Williams.
The only number one seed from the MAC is Stevi Large from the University of Akron in the hammer throw. She is almost four meters ahead of the number two seed i the event. Ball State has had an athlete advance to the NCAA Championships each of the last two years.
