WOMEN'S TENNIS: Cardinals season comes to an end in MAC Tournament

The Ball State University women's tennis team's season came to an end today as it lost to Northern Illinois University in the opening round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.

The Huskies (7-15, 1-7 MAC) knocked the Cardinals (5-14, 0-8 MAC) out of the tournament with a 4-3 win in Bowling Green, Ohio.

In the loss, Ball State won the doubles point for the first time against a MAC opponent since March 30, 2007 - a time when none of the current Cardinals were on the Ball State roster.

The No. 3 doubles team of freshman Hanna Oman and sophomore Hayley Hall defeated Katie Friedlund and Sara McLaughlin 8-2. The No. 1 team of sophomore Georgina Thomson and freshman Dena Boulieris then beat Brooke Forsberg and Martina Schnapp 8-5 to clinch the doubles point.

Northern Illinois took four of the six singles matches, however, to capture its second 4-3 victory of the year against Ball State.

Oman won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 5 singles for Ball State while Boulieris won at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-3 against Friedlund.

At one point the Cardinals led the match 3-2 but they could not close out the win.The loss capped Ball State's first year without a conference win since the 1988-89 season, which was coach Kathy Bull's first season with the team.
