VGR to celebrate National Record Store Day

Village Green Records will celebrate the second annual National Record Store Day on Saturday with a diverse 15-band lineup and several exclusive sales.

Owner Travis Harvey said the lineup will feature everything from old-school hip-hop to country to dance music with bands coming from as far as Europe. He said Village Green shows usually support local bands but he brought in bands from all over for the special occasion.

Several items will go on sale for the day. Special edition vinyl records, DVDs and other products are releasing just for National Record Store Day, he said. A lot of items in the store will be 10 percent off for the day as well.

In addition to live music, Carter's World Famous Hot Dogs and WCRD will attend. Harvey will sell $1 raffle tickets and grill food later in the day, he said.

The event is free and open to the public, he said, but donations are encouraged and recommended.

Harvey said the event is "pretty massive" for the store.

"Village Green doesn't really have an anniversary so we almost look at National Record Store Day as our birthday," he said.

The day has become an international event, he said. It celebrates the student customers and shows what they mean to the store.

"If you love music this is the best way to show that love," Harvey said. "It's a really special event. This one day recognizes everyone in the music business."

The event starts at 1 p.m. Saturday.
