The Ball State University track and field team divided in half to attend two invitationals this past weekend, bringing home several individual bests from both meets.
The long distance runners traveled to Hillsdale, Mich., for the "GINA" Relays while the rest of the team headed to Indianapolis for the Stan Lyons Invitational.
At the Stan Lyons Invitational, freshmen Janae Taylor grabbed two second place finishes in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes with times of 12 and 24.52 seconds. Along with teammates junior Katie Johnson, sophomore Ra'Jae Marable and fifth-year senior Amber Williams, Taylor won the 4x100 relay race.
Two more season-best times were collected in the 400-meter race by senior Christine Whitt and freshmen Samantha Starcher with times of 58.53 and 1:06.51, respectively.
Freshmen Christine Talhelm clocked in a 2:19.76 in the 800-meter race, finishing seventh and collecting a season best for the Cardinals. Junior Ashley Johnson came in 33rd place with 2:36.66.
Junior Jenna Schmitmeyer received a time of 1:04.50 in the 400-meter hurdles for third.
Sophomore Thekla Lorenz earned second place with a 5.99 meter jump in the long jump but was short .01 meter of making an NCAA-provisional qualifying mark.
At the "GINA" Relays, junior Ali Bishel finished second in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 35.52.83. Her time is the second fasted in the Mid-American Conference and gave her a mark that qualifies for the NCAA provisionals.
Junior Sarah Kehe ran the 3,000 Steeplechase Invite race and completed it with a time of 11:48.38 to earn 14th place.
Junior Brittany Ade and sophomore Brandi Robinson finished eighth and 35th in the 800-meter run with times of 2:15.80 and 2:22.28, respectively, both of which were season-best times.
