SOFTBALL: Sibling rivalry flares up at BSU

Two sisters compete against each other for final time in MAC

For the week leading up to the Ball State University softball game against the University at Buffalo, Ball State catcher Natalie Bejarano has been keeping in contact with her younger sister Alex Bejarano.

Alex Bejarano is a sophomore at Buffalo and the starting shortstop. After reaching base on a walk in the first inning, she tried to steal second, only to be picked off by her older sister.

"She's been talking crap for about a week about stealing on me," Natalie Bejarano said. "It's nice to put her in her place for a while."

The two are at odds about the play, however.

Alex Bejarano said she was only picked off because she got a bad jump from first, while the older sister says it did not matter because she was out by a long shot.

The two were able to play against each other last year, but the younger sister failed to reach base to test her older sister's arm.

Alex Bejarano is 2-4 on steal attempts, while her sister has picked off eight of 35 runners.

Unless they play in the MAC Tournament, this will be the last time the sisters will be able to play on the field together.

"It was fun," Natalie Bejarano said. "We still joke around on the field. We say mean things to each other and laugh. We still try to be serious, but when it comes down to it, we're still friends because we're never going to be able to play together again."
