SOFTBALL: Pair of homers not enough in Cardinals' loss

BSU drops game as Morehead State gets 4 runs off of Milian

Prior to April, one Ball State University softball player had hit a home run. Since April 10, that number has grown to five.

Before Spring Break, Jen Reifschneider was the only Cardinal to hit a home run, but Kamilah Holle, Amanda Montalto, Jen Moore and Kate Wilczynski have since added their names to the list.

Moore and Wilczynski both hit a home run against Morehead State University on Tuesday, but it was not enough for Ball State to pull out the win as it fell 7-5.

On the day, Moore went 2-3 with two RBIs and a run, while Wilczynski went 1-2 with an RBI and two runs. Shortstop Alicia Barkley also went 2-3 with a run for the Cardinals.

Laura Masch received the start for the Cardinals and struck out five while allowing three runs in 4.1 innings of work. Elizabeth Milian relieved Masch in the fifth inning and allowed four earned runs and picked up the loss for the game.

The second game of the doubleheader was canceled because of rain in the third inning, when Ball State was leading the game 5-3. Montalto hit a home run in the top of the third, but because the game did not complete five full innings, none of the statistics from the game will be kept.

The Cardinals will be in action again today when they travel to Bloomington for a doubleheader against Indiana University. Ball State defeated Indiana 4-1 on March 14 at the Under Armour Showcase in Florida. Prior to last weekend's school record-tying home run, Reifschneider's last home run was in that game.

The first game is scheduled for 3 p.m., with the second game to start 30 minutes after the end of the first.
