The Ball State University men's volleyball team is back in the conference championship match.
Ball State defeated No. 12 Lewis University 27-30, 21-30, 30-25, 31-29, 15-12 in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Tournament semifinals Thursday in Columbus, Ohio, to advance to the MIVA championship match.
This is the first time in program history the Cardinals have overcome a two-game deficit to win a match in the MIVA Tournament.
Ball State had four players finish the match with at least 10 kills, including outside attacker Lee Meyer. Meyer came off the bench in the second game and had 10 kills, including a game-high four kills in the fifth game.
In addition, middle attacker J.D. Gasparovic played in the final four games and had 10 kills and a .526 attack percentage. Gasparovic missed the last four matches because of mononucleosis, and prior to the match coach Joel Walton said that First Team All-MIVA sophomore would not play.
Ball State will play No. 10 Ohio State University, which swept No. 13 Loyola in its semifinals match, in the championship match at 7 p.m. Saturday in Columbus, Ohio. This will be a rematch of last season's MIVA championship match when the Buckeyes swept the Cardinals to advance to the NCAA Final Four.
