MEN'S TENNIS: Undefeated Ball State battles undefeated Western Michigan for MAC lead

Ball State University and Western Michigan University will collide for sole possession of first place in the Mid-American Conference on Saturday at Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.

They will unless Mother Nature has anything to say about it.

The Ball State men's tennis team has played all of its home matches in the YMCA Tennis Center, an indoor facility, so far this season. Saturday's 1 p.m. match will be the first home match outdoors at Cardinal Creek. The last time Ball State competed there was in early October during the fall season.

The Cardinals have practiced between outdoor and indoor venues depending on weather during the past few weeks.

If the weather is too cold or if it's raining, the match will have to be moved to the YMCA. However, the women's team will play a match at the same time in that venue. The men's match would have to be on hold until the women's match is completed later in the afternoon.

Forecasts call for partly cloudy skies and a high of 52 degrees, so the match should go off as scheduled.

Seven of Ball State's 11 victories have come at home this season, while Western Michigan has a 7-5 record on the road.

Ball State (11-8, 3-0 MAC) is coming off a 4-3 victory at the University of Toledo. Western Michigan (14-8, 3-0 MAC) is riding a five-match winning streak and has won 20 straight matches against MAC opponents. The Broncos have also defeated two ranked teams this season.

"We have to play well," Ball State coach Bill Richards said. "We have to put a match together where every player gives them a chance to win. We can't have any weak links."
