About 1,500 high school journalism students will be walking down the streets of Ball State University from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. today.
Ball State is having its 54th Journalism Day, and about 100 high schools from Indiana and surrounding states will be attending.
The program includes a keynote speaker, an awards presentation for students who participated in contests and more than 50 lectures for students to choose from.
This year's J-Day's theme is Times Change. Keynote speaker Regina McCombs will talk about telling stories through multiple media.
McCombs is a faculty member at the Poynter Institute for Media Studies. Prior to that she was the senior producer for multimedia at startribune.com in Minneapolis.
Assistant Director of Workshops Adam Maksl said sessions will be in the center of campus this year because the L.A. Pittenger Student Center, where Journalism Day sessions have been in past years, is under renovation.
"Because we are having all the sessions in the middle of campus, I think it will be a really great experience for the high school students who come to Journalism Day because they get to see the energy in campus, how vibrant it is," he said. "And the fact that tomorrow's weather is going to be really nice will just make it a really nice day to be outside on campus."
Sessions will be in the Ball Communication Building, the Art and Journalism Building, Letterman Communication and Media Building and the Teachers College.
