Habitat for Humanity group raffling off golden toilet

The Habitat for Humanity Building Better Communities team is raffling off a golden toilet to raise awareness and educate students about reusing and volunteering today and Thursday.

Kellie Burch, assistant director of Client Operations for Cardinal Communications, said the event is 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Scramble Light.

The team created a strategic plan on how to get the word out about the Habitat For Humanity Home Discount Center, she said.

The Home Discount Center sells home supplies such as lighting, cabinets and sinks that have been donated and cleaned up, according to a press release. The profits go toward building homes in the Muncie area.

To get students to stop at the Scramble Light, Building Better Communities will conduct a raffle inviting students to donate their used residence hall and apartment items, according to the press release.

Burch said students can give their names and e-mail addresses to receive updates about the home center and be entered in the raffle. Raffle prizes include gift cards from Johnny Carino's Country Italian, the Olive Garden and Domino's Pizza along with toothbrushes and toothpaste.

The grand prize is a gold metallic toilet, Burch said.

"We're going to give it to someone if they want it," Burch said.
