FOOTBALL: Undrafted former Cardinals join NFL teams as free agents

After not being selected in the 2009 NFL Draft this past weekend, multiple former Ball State University football players received deals to join NFL teams.

Center Dan Gerberry signed with the Detroit Lions, according to the Detroit Free Press. Offensive tackle Andre Ramsey signed with the Seattle Seahawks, according to the Seattle Times. Tight end Darius Hill will attend the New York Giants' rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, according to The Star-Ledger.

Gerberry was an All-Mid-American Conference First Team selection this past season. He was one of Ball State's captains and started every game for the team at center.

Ramsey was an All-MAC First Team selection this past season. As Ball State's left tackle, Ramsey started every game for Ball State. Both were part the offensive line that allowed one sack per game, which was best in the MAC and fourth best in the nation.

This past season, Hill made 40 catches for 670 yards and seven touchdowns. As a junior he had 65 receptions for 926 yards and 11 touchdowns, which earned him a spot on the College Sports Report All-America Second Team.

Players who are not drafted become free agents and can sign with any team they choose.

Two former Cardinals were selected in the Draft on Sunday.

The Dallas Cowboys took offensive lineman Robert Brewster with the 11th pick of the third round, which was the 75th pick overall. The San Francisco 49ers took quarterback Nate Davis with the 35th pick of the fifth round, which was 171st overall.
