FOOTBALL: Incoming freshman makes national team

A Ball State University football signee will represent the United States as a member of the USA Football's 2009 Junior National Team, which will play in football's first junior world championship this summer.

Offensive lineman Matthew Page is one of 36 high school seniors who were selected to play on the American team. The roster will consist of 45 players, all 19 years old or younger.

Eight teams from the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand and Sweden will compete in the 2009 International Federation of American Football Junior World Championship from June 27 through July 5 in Canton, Ohio.

The American team will be coached by Chuck Kyle, who is the head coach of Cleveland St. Ignatius High School. St. Ignatius has won 10 of Ohio's past 21 state championships and two USA Today National Championships.

Page is one of 22 recruits who signed national letters of intent to play for Ball State beginning in 2009.
