Even though the program had to change venues, Late Nite hasn't been significantly affected by construction on the L.A. Pittenger Student Center this year.
Assistant Director for Programs Hannah Harrison said Late Nite had to move to Irving Gymnasium at the beginning of the year. Late Nite was different, she said, because University Program Board couldn't take the bowling alley with it, but nearly everything else was similar and no major problems arose.
"It wasn't really more difficult, but we had to create better planning with the build up and tear down of Late Nite since we had to move everything across campus," she said.
Some of the changes in planning involved renting a truck to move the Late Nite gear across campus, organizing what could be used in Irving and effectively using the space given.
Attendance increased slightly when Late Nite moved to Irving, Harrison said, because it is closer to most of the residence halls. Attendance balanced again when construction started at Irving, she said.
Administration coordinator of Late Nite Holly Arnett said attendance hasn't changed a lot and an average of 1,000 students usually show up to regular Late Nite events.
"Late Nite generally draws in the same crowd during our events," she said. "We may have lost a few here or there due to cold weather, but the numbers usually are the same."
With the Student Center construction well underway, officials of Late Nite are excited about Late Nite's return to the Student Center in Fall 2010. They expect attendance to increase with the novelty of the event.
Harrison said incoming students who attend Late Nite at the Student Center in Fall 2010 won't know it ever moved.
For those organizing Late Nite, the return to the Student Center will make their job simpler. Harrison said, going back to the Student Center will create a different atmosphere and sense of pride for those involved in organizing Late Nite.
As Late Nite is continually changing, the move back to the Student Center will also bring back bowling and the game rooms to the list of activities, she said. Although the program won't be the same as it is now, no drastic changes are planned as of yet.
